PA Sound systems

PA or Public Address sound systems are used to amplify speech and/or presentation sound for an event. Mainly used in conferences so the speaker can speak at a comfortable level while their voice is amplified though out the entire venue. There are various systems available for Hire depending on the requirements of the client.

Flown sound systems

Flown sound systems is the term used when the speaker system is lifted off the ground, usually suspended from above. This system is generally used in larger outdoor concerts and performances. Having the speakers high in the air and pointing down, allows the sound to reach a greater number of people. Usually only the mid-range and high range frequency speakers (mids and tops) are flown, while the low range (subs) remain on the ground.

Indoor and outdoor concert sound

For larger productions like concerts a larger sound system is required. The aim is to reproduce the same sound that an instrument or performer is making on stage, to the person at the back of the crowd. There must be the same consistent sound throughout the audience area, so that each individual of the audience can experience the performance to the fullest. As explained above, a flown sound system is the best for achieving this.

Band backline stage equipment

Setting up a band onstage requires a lot of time and patience. Often a band will require backline to be supplied. Backline refers to equipment like a drum kit, bass guitar amplifier and lead guitar amplifier. The equipment is supplied and set up so when the band arrives they basically have to plug and play. This means that the audience does not have to sit and wait for a band to set-up before they perform. Hiring backline equipment also means you can be assured that there will be no problems with faulty or un-compatible gear. Selby's will supply only the top quality equipment so you can be rest assured that the band will sound its best.

Specialised microphones

Selby's has a wide range of specialised microphones for any requirement. Whether it be a choir or traditional instrument, Selby's will always make sure that you have the best microphones available to reproduce the sound exactly how it should sound. Bad quality or damaged microphones can spoil the sound of an instrument or singer. Making sure you have good microphones is the first step to having good sound at an event or conference. Various types of wireless microphones are also available to make it easy for the speaker or performer to move around.

Orchestral multi-miking

Any orchestra can include many different instruments. It's important to use the right microphone for the right instrument. Often there are lots of the same or similar instruments in an orchestra. Selby's specialises in orchestral miking and has all the right microphones required. Selby's has done various orchestral concerts including the annual Starlight Pops in Durban.

Language interpretation equipment

In today's world of international conferences, language interpretation equipment plays a crucial role in communication between foreign countries. Language interpretation equipment works by having a microphone by each speaker, and a headset by each listener. The speaker can then freely speak in their own language. An interpreter is required for each language translation. The interpreter sits in a sound proof booth and translates one language into another. Listeners of any language can put on a headset and listen directly to the translation in their own language.
